Jordan Geometries by Inversions

چکیده

Jordan geometries are defined as spaces X equipped with point reflections Jxz a depending on triples of points (x, a, z), exchanging x and z and fixing a. In a similar way, symmetric spaces have been defined by Loos ([Lo69]) as spaces equipped with point reflections Sx fixing x, and therefore the theories of Jordan geometries and of symmetric spaces are closely related to each other – in order to describe this link, the notion of symmetry actions of torsors and of symmetric spaces is introduced. Jordan geometries give rise both to symmetry actions of certain abelian torsors and of certain symmetric spaces, which in a sense are dual to each other. By using an algebraic differential calculus generalizing the classical Weil functors, we attach a tangent object to such geometries, namely a Jordan pair, resp. a Jordan algebra. The present approach works equally well over base rings in which 2 is not invertible (and in particular over Z), and hence can be seen as a globalization of quadratic Jordan pairs; it also has a very transparent relation with the theory of associative geometries developped in [BeKi09a].

Generalized projective geometries: general theory and equivalence with Jordan structures

In this work we introduce generalized projective geometries which are a natural generalization of projective geometries over a field or ring K but also of other important geometries such as Grassmannian, Lagrangian or conformal geometry (see [3]). We also introduce the corresponding generalized polar geometries and associate to such a geometry a symmetric space over K. In the finite-dimensional...

Jordan- and Lie Geometries

In these lecture notes we report on research aiming at understanding the relation beween algebras and geometries, by focusing on the classes of Jordan algebraic and of associative structures and comparing them with Lie structures. The geometric object sought for, called a generalized projective, resp. an associative geometry, can be seen as a combination of the structure of a symmetric space, r...

On the Hermitian projective line as a home for the geometry of Quantum Theory

In the paper “Is there a Jordan geometry underlying quantum physics?” [Be08], generalized projective geometries have been proposed as a framework for a geometric formulation of Quantum Theory. In the present note, we refine this proposition by discussing further structural features of Quantum Theory: the link with associative involutive algebras A and with Jordan-Lie and Lie-Jordan algebas. The...

Jordan structures and non-associative geometry

We give an overview over constructions of geometries associated to Jordan structures (algebras, triple systems and pairs), featuring analogs of these constructions with the Lie functor on the one hand and with the approach of noncommutative geometry on the other hand.

Inner ideals and intrinsic subspaces in linear pair geometries

We introduce the notion of intrinsic subspaces of linear and affine pair geometries, which generalizes the one of projective subspaces of projective spaces. We prove that, when the affine pair geometry is the projective geometry of a Lie algebra introduced in [BeNe04], such intrinsic subspaces correspond to inner ideals in the associated Jordan pair, and we investigate the case of intrinsic sub...
